IACEP Constitution

IACEP is an international society of professionals (researchers, practitioners) and interested others who are interested in the fields of cognitive education and cognitive psychology. Cognitive education refers to the education that is focused on methods of cognitive and motivational enhancement. Its "partners" include cognitive assessment (e.g., "dynamic" or "interactive" assessment and the "Lerntest" approach), as well as speech and language therapy, psychotherapy, and related treatment modalities that are based on cognitive approaches. Its sole ideologic focus is the idea that the perception, thinking, learning, and problem solving of human beings can be understood and ultimately improved by their development and the application of systematic, identifiable, and communicable processes of logical thinking. Cognitive psychologists are likely to share much in common with cognitive educators, but may focus their interests on more theoretical aspects of such cognitive processes as thinking, learning, attention, perception, and memory, and/or the neuropsychological substrates of such processes.

Although members of IACEP have been influenced by several theorists and streams of research, the Association is not committed to any one conceptual system. Recognizing the need for continuing inquiry and development, the Association is determinedly dedicated to pluralism in conceptual schemes and applied systems.

Welcoming participation of practitioners (e.g.,teachers, therapists, assessment specialists), research/academic professionals, and interested others, IACEP members strive to maintain an organization that brings together, and constitutes a hospitable society for, persons with diverse applied and theoretical interests. The Association recognizes the importance of collaborative inquiry that includes researchers and practitioners, working together or separately, in advancing the goals of cognitive theory, education, assessment, and therapies.

IACEP engages in a variety of activities, all of them focused on improving communication in the community of persons interested in developing logic processes and on promoting research on and applications of cognitive education. These activities include:

1. biennial international conferences, and regional conferences during in-between years

2. on-line publication of a professional scientific journal
